Message from the Director
Bienvenidos and welcome to the San Miguel community. Whether you are a family looking for a new school community, a teacher looking to work with talented youth who will make you laugh and inspire you daily, or a potential donor or volunteer, we are glad you are here.
San Miguel is mission-driven.
Founded in 1993 by Brother Lawrence Goyette, FSC, San Miguel is an independent, tuition-free, Lasallian middle school serving 64 boys in grades 5-8, and continuing to support all graduates into and through high school, and post-secondary planning and support. This 12-year commitment reflects our belief that every young Miguel Man is on his own journey and we are here to support him and his family in reaching his dreams.
San Miguel is a brotherhood.
Every day we build community through our signature handshake and eye contact greetings to daily Morning Assembly to Open Gym nights for alumni. Due to our small size, Miguel Men develop a brotherhood that lasts a lifetime.
San Miguel is Lasallian.
Our Lasallian mission calls us to serve boys from under-resourced communities and to guide them in developing lives inspired by faith, community, and service. Because we believe that diversity is a cornerstone of a well-rounded education, we welcome boys and families from all religious backgrounds and encourage our students to be curious as they set out to discover their personal faith journey.
San Miguel is a tuition-free independent school.
Unlike most independent schools, we are not tuition-driven. Conversely, as a 501c3 non-profit, we rely on hundreds of generous donors who believe in the power of education to change lives. In fact, 97% of our operating costs are provided by private charitable support, usually as participants in our Student Sponsorship Program. We also believe that families who prioritize their child’s education are ideal school partners and therefore we ask that families to contribute annually according to their AGI, which averages out to be $800 per year per student.
San Miguel is fully accredited.
We are accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC) and sponsored by the Lasallian District of Eastern North America. (DENA).
San Miguel is engaging.
From robotics to hands-on science to civics and a strong commitment to reading and writing, the San Miguel classroom is exciting and, due to our size, we are able to support every student individually. Additionally, we offer a very robust list of after-school activities including golf, basketball, soccer, flag football, crew, chess, Green Team, Art Club, Scholar’s Club, and more.
San Miguel is supportive.
With a full-time mental health counselor and several part-time learning specialists, we are able to support each student academically and socially. From weekly Guidance Class to 1:1 meetings with the counselor to our trauma-informed teaching staff, we feel that every student is seen and, as validated by our annual surveys, feels a very strong sense of belonging.
San Miguel is committed… for the long-term.
Our unique Graduate Support Program assists students and families with the high school application process, and continues to support them in high school and beyond with summer job and internship help to a comprehensive college and career counseling process. Upon graduation, our graduates head off to La Salle Academy, St. Raphael’s Academy, St. Andrew’s School (RI), The Milton Hershey School (PA), Classical High School, Providence Country Day School, Rocky Hill Country Day, Davies Technical School and Providence Career and Technical Academy, to name a few. Those who go on to college have attended Providence College, St. John’s University, URI, Rhode Island College, Johnson and Wales University, and Roger Williams University among others. We have graduates who have served in the military and many who have gained employment in the trades through training and internships. Each graduate is on his own path and we are there to support him every step of the way.
San Miguel loves visitors!
There is nothing like seeing our school personally. Please call us today to schedule a visit, which includes a student-led tour and Morning Assembly. You will be amazed not only by what you see, but perhaps more importantly, how you feel in the presence of these young men. Come see- and feel it- for yourself.
We look forward to welcoming you!
Sincerely,
Mel Bride
