Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteers

Volunteer opportunities are varied and may involve a one-time project or an ongoing commitment. These gifts of time and special expertise help us to maximize limited resources and provide our students with the best quality services.

If you are interested in learning more about how you, your business, or your organization might make a difference, please contact Mel Bride at 401-467-9777 x117.

Mentors

Mentors are a key part of the ‘caring community' surrounding our boys. Mentoring is defined as a sustained, positive relationship between a youth and an adult. As a mentor, you make a commitment to spend one hour each week at lunchtime with a San Miguel student. All you need to give is your guidance, support, and attention. Playing games, listening to a description of the last athletic event, sharing your experiences - the quality time that you spend with your mentee can have a life-long impact.

There are no special requirements to become a mentor. Our mentors are men and women of all ages coming from varied backgrounds. Current mentors include college students and retirees, teachers and lawyers, artists and police officers.

Mentors complete a background check and participate in an orientation before meeting their mentee. A commitment of at least one school year is requested - many of our mentors stay with a student for four years.

Community Partners

San Miguel is more than a school. We are a corps of dedicated faculty, staff, students, parents and community members who provide immeasurable love and support to the boys of San Miguel. We are all dedicated to the betterment of the boys in our care and we provide more than academics, moving beyond the classroom to impact the life of each boy, one at a time.

Our community consists of many partnerships, including Brown University, Providence College, St. Sebastian’s School, and Greenville Baptist Church. These organizations partner with us to provide food, school supplies, mentors, and tutors. We are grateful to our community partners for their dedication and support.

We are always looking for new community partners. If you are interested in becoming involved with our community, please contact Mel Bride at mbride@sanmiguelprov.org or 401-467-9777 x117.
