Graduate and Family Support

Graduate Support

At San Miguel, our commitment to each student and family extends beyond graduation. Students continue to receive support from the San Miguel community for up to ten years after they graduate from eighth grade. Our graduate support program assists students with high school placement, financial aid applications, and the transition into high school. Other support may include a mentoring relationship with a trusted adult, tutoring to improve and enrich academic performance, or counseling and peer mediation to counter the effects of harmful distractions. Our commitment to support, assist and care for our graduates throughout the next step of the educational journey means a consistent presence in their lives to ensure that they succeed and are able to choose what they will do next from a variety of options.

Family Support

In today's economy, we understand that many families are in need of extra support to help make ends meet. At San Miguel, we aim to help alleviate economic stresses through various family support programming, embracing our students and their families through the generosity of our donors.

Operation Ayuda

In order to provide assistance and support to its families year-round, San Miguel offers ‘Operation Ayuda.' This program is available to families in need of emergency assistance or due to special circumstances. Donations to this program include groceries, winter jackets, and linens, which are distributed to families based on individual need.

The holidays often pose an extra challenge for many of our families. To help provide assistance during the holiday season, San Miguel organizes the ‘Embrace-a-Family' program. As a part of this program, community organizations and individual supporters sponsor San Miguel families who are most in need of extra help, buying and wrapping gifts for each family member.

Thanksgiving Basket Program

Each November, supporters, mentors, and others in the community put together ‘Thanksgiving Baskets' for San Miguel families. The baskets, which include all of the fixings for a traditional Thanksgiving dinner, are donated to families in need of assistance. An average of 30 families are sponsored for Thanksgiving each year.

Blessings in a Backpack

Thanks to the support of the Providence Rotary, every San Miguel student participates in the Blessings in a Backpack program. Every Friday, students are giving a backpack filled with healthy food items for the weekend. The backpacks return empty on Monday, and students return well-fed!

Parent Group

Our Parent Group meets on a regular basis to discuss parent concerns and ways for our families to form a strong community at San Miguel.
