The typical San Miguel student is a boy who may be dealing with a chaotic home or neighborhood environment and is suffering academically. He may be a boy who is avoiding school because he is being bullied, or one who is moving towards street crime or gang membership. The typical San Miguel student may exhibit learning and behavior problems at school and show signs of being a future drop-out, or he may be a student who simply needs a more structured and supportive educational environment.
Being a "Miguel Man" is the ultimate goal for all San Miguel students. Although strong emphasis is placed on academic growth, preparing students to be valuable members of society makes the school truly unique. A Miguel Man is characterized by his behavior and attitude. He is a gentleman who greets visitors with a warm handshake and holds doors open for his fellow students. He is courteous, helpful, and respectful of others. He works with counselors and teachers to overcome any lingering street values, and he works to reshape himself into a serious student and thoughtful young man with ethical principles that will guide him throughout his life.
