Together Makes Sense: Community-wide Ecumenical Effort Raises $10,000 for San Miguel

A benefit held on March 20 at the St. Philip's Parish Center in Greenville raised $10,000 for The San Miguel School.

The dinner and raffle brought together members from St. Philip Men's Club, Greenville Baptist Church, Our Redeemer Evangelical Lutheran Church, Berean Baptist Church, and St. Vincent de Paul-St. Philip Conference in a collaborative effort to raise money for San Miguel's Student Sponsorship Fund.

In addition to the efforts of the different churches, community support from the North Central Chamber of Commerce, Bryant University, the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, local businesses, and other community service organizations helped to make the event a success.

Moved by the San Miguel mission through visits to the school and other involvement, the benefit was organized by members of a 12-person inter-church committee. The resulting ecumenical dinner brought together members from each of the congregations and the surrounding community, united in their efforts to support the work of San Miguel.

"We all knew we had to do something," said one member, "and ‘together' made sense."
