San Miguel students celebrate cultures around the world

The 2nd Annual Kaleidoscope of Culture Night drew families and friends together in celebration of diversity and traditions around the world at The San Miguel School on April 30.

The event, a showcase of culture projects from the San Miguel eighth-graders and a culmination of research they have been conducting since last September, featured 16 different countries in creative displays. Each student added to his exhibit through traditional apparel or costume as well as the preparation of a food item from his country of study.

The event was also attended by three guest judges, including Charles Cox, professor of history at Bridgewater State College and Northeastern University.

Student exhibits presented the students' individual research into the government, culture, economy, people, language, and cultures of countries around the world. The year-long project required the eighth-graders to complete two research papers and was integrated into the English and History curriculum.
