San Miguel celebrates spring with Awards Luncheon

The San Miguel School welcomed nearly 200 guests to its annual Spring Awards Luncheon on Friday, March 26, gathering students, faculty, parents, mentors and supporters in celebration of second trimester student achievements.

Students were honored for various academic and citizenship accomplishments, including honor roll and Miguel Man of the Week awards. The luncheon was also highlighted by student speakers and a fifth-grade choral recitation of "Paul Revere's Ride" by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, a tradition started by former sixth-grade teacher Monique Flynn.

Also honored at the luncheon was Erin Holloway from Lillian Feinstein Elementary School at Sackett Street, who was presented with "The San Miguel Award" for her work in cultivating and fostering the relationship between the two schools since the early years of San Miguel.

Luncheon guests enjoyed a performance by the San Miguel School Chorus, directed by Paula Fontes, as well as the first performance of the year by the San Miguel Dance Team. The dancers were joined in their tap number by San Miguel graduate Luis Ortiz '06, now a senior at La Salle Academy. Luis, a former San Miguel Dance Team member who now assists the team with choreography, was the special guest in the team's traditional "Brother Act." The dance team will also perform at the San Miguel Gala, "Believe the Dream," on May 7.
