CVS Caremark Charity Classic among 2010 Miguel Medal recipients

Omaris Maria, of Providence, Michael Newquist, of Attleboro, and the CVS Caremark Charity Classic were honored by the San Miguel School as Miguel Medal recipients at the school's annual gala at the Pell Chafee Performance Center on May 7.

Miguel Medals are awarded to school supporters, volunteers, or benefactors who have championed and exemplified the San Miguel mission. Nearly 300 friends of San Miguel were in attendance for this year's gala and Miguel Medal ceremony.

Omaris Maria, whose two sons graduated from San Miguel more than ten years ago, was celebrated for her work as a liaison to Spanish-speaking parents. As a translator and an advocate for education, Maria has remained part of the San Miguel community, helping the school to better reach those in need.

Michael Newquist was honored for his involvement as a volunteer, mentor, and Board member at San Miguel. A partner at Edwards Angell Palmer & Dodge, Newquist commits time each week to mentor a San Miguel student, and he invests a great deal of time as a key player in the school's strategic planning.

The CVS Caremark Charity Classic, whose annual proceeds benefit local charities dedicated to children and families, was celebrated for their commitment to San Miguel as well as the larger community. As a working partner of the tournament, San Miguel not only benefits from the proceeds each year, but its students and staff are actively involved as volunteers.  San Miguel students have also served as Junior Reporters, affording them new and exciting opportunities for enrichment and growth.

San Miguel offers its deepest gratitude and most sincere congratulations to our 2010 Miguel Medal recipients!
