Brother Lawrence honored by Christian Brothers

Brother Lawrence Goyette, FSC, executive director at The San Miguel School of Providence, was honored with The Brother John Johnston, FSC Award on November 23 in recognition of his leadership, teaching, and evangelization that can be seen in his ground-breaking work. The Brother John Johnston, FSC Award is given to Brothers and Lasallian Partners who have worked to advance the Lasallian mission of providing a human and Christian education to the young, especially the poor.

The San Miguel School began with Brother Lawrence’s vision and belief that every child deserves to hope for the best possible future. Brother Lawrence’s dream for a school to “touch the hearts and minds” of poor children took shape while living in South Providence. Seeing a need for a school that would offer kids in that neighborhood a quality education, The San Miguel School of Providence opened in 1993 and has served as a model for similar Lasallian schools throughout the Region. The school’s impact can be measured in the accomplishments of more than 240 graduates and the community of thousands of supporters, donors and volunteers who make San Miguel School possible.

We are thankful for Brother Lawrence and the family he has built at San Miguel Providence over the last 21 years. Congratulations, Brother Lawrence, on this well-deserved honor!
