Academic Dean Heather Ruple honored for commitment to service

San Miguel Academic Dean Heather Ruple was recently honored by the Lasallian Volunteer program as the recipient of the 2010 Bassen Service Award.

Heather, who served as a Lasallian Volunteer (LV) at San Miguel from 2001-2003, was recognized as an alumnus who has continued a life of service since completing her volunteer years, incorporating the value of Lasallian service to the poor into the fabric of her life.

Since the completion of her service with the LV program, Heather has remained at San Miguel and stays heavily involved with the program as a workshop and retreat presenter. In addition, Heather has mentored and supported 11 LVs at San Miguel during their time of service, including current volunteers Samantha Almanza and Michael Phipps.

The Lasallian Volunteer Program of the USA/Toronto Region of the De La Salle Christian Brothers provides dedicated, well-trained volunteers for one or more years of service to schools and agencies of the Brothers whose mission is to serve the poor. A total of 23 Lasallian Volunteers have served at the San Miguel School of Providence since the school was founded in 1993.
