10th Annual San Miguel School Gala raises more than $170,000

6 p.m.

More than 250 guests joined in helping to raise $170,000 for San Miguel School at the school’s 10th Annual Gala, Auction and Miguel Medal Ceremony on Friday night, April 10, 2015.

Proceeds from the event will support scholarship assistance for students at the private, independent Lasallian middle-school for urban boys. The Pawtucket Armory and Arts Center was the setting for a lively program that included the presentation of the school’s prestigious Miguel Medal to The Rotary Club of Providence and long-time volunteer Eileen Naughton, in recognition of service to the school’s mission.

San Miguel School 8th graders Ivan Uceta and Brian Betances led the celebration and earned the respect of the crowd as co-hosts of the event; introducing performances by the school’s Drummers, Dance Team and Men’s Choir, and presentation of a short film written, filmed and produced by San Miguel’s Young Directors Club. Special guest Rene De La Garza, Artistic Director of Opera Providence, surprised guests by accompanying the Men’s Choir and following with a solo performance. After his performance, De La Garza helped to raise more than $10,000 to support after-school programs.

The evening concluded with special guest auctioneer Pete Brock, President of the New England Patriots Alumni Association and a member of the Rotary Club of Providence, leading spirited bidding among guests during the live auction.

Joseph and Maria Schwartz were the Presenting Sponsors of The San Miguel School Gala, Auction and Miguel Medal Ceremony.  Major Sponsors included: Amica Insurance, Delta Dental, The Washington Trust Company, Frank Justin, Nortek, Locke Lord LLP, and Michael and Jamie Costello.

Thank you to all who made this year's event such a great success!
